Minnie Mouse Mania….

To celebrate a very special girl turning 2, Minnie Mouse Mania engulfed our house. A cake didn’t seem like enough so we had Minnie Cupcakes to kick off the birthday weekend. They were, as expected a big hit!

I used a basic fairy cake recipe and used large muffin cases. I made the ears and bows a few days in advance (see below) so on the day all I had to do was swirl on some pink buttercream frosting and place the ears and bow on top.

Ears – super easy. I used the wide end of a large icing nozzle and cut out around 30 circles in black sugarpaste. I made a few extra to allow for accidents. I then left them to dry on kitchen towel.

Bow – I used bow cutters to make these. I had a set of jem bow cutters and they are really simple to use. I rolled out pink sugar paste and cut out some bow shapes, I didn’t bother with the ribbon bits at the base of the bow, as Minnie doesn’ have them. I then glued the bow together using clear alcohol, but edible glue would also be great.
For the white dots, I used the tip of a narrow piping nozzle and cut out dots in white fondant and then stuck them randomly on the bows. This worked well but was a bit fiddly to get the dots off the paint brush and onto the bows, next time I think I’ll use some royal icing. I also left these to dry for a few days.
